2024 Summer Smash

Our second development competition for the year is scheduled for Redeemer University-College near Hamilton. The competition will again focus on the Kick-Light discipline with divisions for all ages from Cadet (under 10) to Veterans (over 40). Development competitions enforce the contact level at 30% to ensure a safe and fun environment for all participants.  The Summer Smash will have three competitive rings to ensure a fast moving competition.

This will be the first competition of 2024 that will see the return of our incredibly popular Tag-Team sparring divisions!

TAG TEAM DIVISIONS

WAKO Canada Tag-Team divisions offer a fun team competitive environment.  The divisions were incredibly popular at our 2018-2019 tournaments as the focus was on having fun and showing club pride!

Tag Team Rules

• All bouts are under the Kick Light discipline
• Each team has three participants
• Each team can only have one participant ‘in play’ while in the competitive zone
• The other members of each team stay in the safety zone and only compete when tagged in by the in-play participant
• An athlete can be ‘in-play’ for no longer than 30 seconds before having to tag out.
• Bouts are 4 minutes in length
• Bouts are won by the team with the greatest number of cumulative points at the end of the round.
• All three athletes must be within the age category of the team and weight is open.
• The contact rule will be strictly enforced at 30%
• Excessive contact will result in an immediate penalty point for the other team.
• Rule infractions will result in an immediate penalty point for the other team
• When any penalty point is awarded both athletes must immediately tag out.
