2023 WAKO Senior Worlds
WAKO Canada is excited to finalize our 2023 National Team that will represent Canada at the WAKO World Senior Championship in Aibufeira, Portugal this coming November.
Aibufeira is an amazing location for a World Championship. The city has an amazing cosmopolitan flavour with outstanding restaurants, beautiful beaches and vibrant night-life. The beautiful city and Portugal as the host country are excited to host every national delegation and are planning on an outstanding edition of the WAKO Worlds.
The last time WAKO Canada fielded a team in Portugal was the 2009 World Championship where we won a record 6 medals in ring sport. Fast forward to the 2021 World Senior Championship in Italy and Canada made great strides winning medals in both Tatami and Ring disciplines and with a team from across all provinces and territories.
The qualification events were the 2023 Nationals (Niagara Falls – Ring/Kick Light; Quebec – Point/Light Contact/Forms/Weapons). Any athlete that medalled at one of these events have qualified to try out for the WAKO Senior Worlds. The final decisions for selected athletes were based on training camps and results from specific competitions. The final list of qualified athletes is below:

The final selection of all athletes has been finalized. The registration package for all qualified athletes, private coaches and spectators is now finalized and can be found below. The registration and deposit deadline is August 13th. If qualified athlete is not listed or if there is an error please contact the WAKO Canada office immediately (info@wakocanada.org).
Please note the deposit for all delegation members (private coaches, athletes and spectators) is Monday August 13th. The cost details are provided in the link above. The cost of the flights (Toronto/Montreal) has not been included in the registration package.
WAKO Canada will make a group booking with our travel agent as soon as the final team numbers are confirmed. The flight information – cost and deadline – will be provided by the middle/end of August. NO PERSONAL FLIGHT/HOTEL ARRANGEMENTS ARE PERMITTED.
