2026 OWG Coaches Selection Camp

Coaching Application

From February 19^th – 22^nd 2026 over 3000 young Athletes and 500 Coaches from across Ontario will participate in the largest multisport event in Canada – the 2026 Ontario Winter Games (OWG).  There are 23 sports involved in the 2022 OWG and we are excited that Kickboxing is a core sporting partner.

Kickboxing Ontario will be selecting 20 coaches from Member Clubs to act as Team Coaches during the Games. Team Coaches will have the responsibility of working with all participant athletes – coaching them during bouts; conducting briefings/debriefings; implementing team-building activities; as well as acting as chaperones throughout the event.

Past Coaches have included Club Owners, National Caliber/PRO Athletes, and Club Instructors.

The OWG is an exciting learning opportunity for both coaches and athletes. All coaches will stay at the same accommodations as the athletes. The accommodations and meal costs will be covered by the Ministry of Sport. All coaches are responsible for their own travel to and from the resort.

Please note – the Selection of the National Team Coaches for WAKO World Championships will first consider selected coaches of past Ontario Winter Game Events.

Coach Requirements

– 2025 Registered Coach with WAKO Canada and PSO (in good standing)

– Experience coaching competitive youth (ages 9-18)

– Regularly participates in WAKO Canada tournament events

– Must be 18 years or older

– Must attend a Coaches Training/Orientation Session Sunday September 21^st 2025 (11 am – 4 pm)

– Must attend the two OWG training camps on October 12^th and November 9^th 2025 (9 am – 4 pm)

– Must attend the entire OWG – Thursday February 19^th – Sunday February 22^nd 2026

Application Procedure

Submit an Application by email to the WAKO Canada office completing the following:

1. Basic Information: Name – Member Club – DOB
2. Provide 1-2 paragraph answers to the following questions:
3. How would you build trust with an athlete who is not from your club?
4. How would encourage team building within your OWG Team of up to 10 athletes aged 12-18?

Application Deadline – Monday July 28^th.  Successful candidates will be notified by August 11^th 2025.
