National Junior Training Camp/Team Trials

WAKO Canada is excited to announce the start of the National Junior Team preparations for the 2022 WAKO World Junior/Cadet Championship. The date and location of the Worlds will be finalized in the coming weeks by our IF.
The National Senior Team and great success at the 2021 World Championship. Athletes came from provinces coast to coast and for the first time in Canadian history our National Team was represented and medalled in every WAKO discipline! Our National Team program has made great strides forward working with incredible athletes and coaches.
Our Board has decided to organize one central national camp/trials to allow athletes from across the country to come together and access the many national resources offered by Sport Canada.
The camp will be a full two days over the Easter weekend. Please plan travel early so that you can make appropriate arrangements. WAKO Canada will be providing everyone with a host hotel information in the coming weeks.
The training camp will be open to all junior athletes aged 9-18 who wish to gain incredible experience working with selected experts many of which will be coming from the Canadian Sport Institute (NCI) and from the Olympic Training Center (OTC).
The camp will have training sessions for ring sport athletes, and for disciplines of tatami sports – point sparring, light contact, kick light and forms/weapons.
The training camp will also be education and training athletes in the –
National Team Curriculum;
Mobility and flexibility;
The camp is open to all juniors wanting to learn and develop as future national calibre athletes.
The camp will also feature the new National Team fitness testing parameters. All athletes will be evaluated and this assessment + sparring will be used to select athletes for our national team for the World Championship.

There is an early bird registration and late registration so register quickly!
Any athlete wishing to try out for the National Team for the 2022 World Championship will also be required to attend 3 ZOOM training sessions prior to the Trials; participate in the National Championship (Ring and/or Tatami) and any regional training camp dates selected.
